The Professional & Veterinary Affairs (PVA) Manager, Canada will serve as the senior interface with the Canadian veterinary profession.

 

This essential role will liaise with local marketing and customer development to define local strategy and plan to drive vet channel brand recommended most often (BRMO) in line with the company objectives and with focus on:

  • Enhancing the Hill’s image with key veterinary and technician associations and through congresses
  • Leveraging 3rd party endorsement with a specific KTL plan and creating future endorsers through school programs
  • Directing the PVA team on the ground, including Professional Consultant Veterinarians (PCVs) for an integrated engagement with professionals and support of Key Accounts and District teams
  • Championing continuing professional development to ensure that proper training programs are in place and executed

 

As part of the North America hub, the role is connected with the leadership of PVA US to obtain guidance for execution of global strategy, to champion the hub educational activities and execute professional events in a synergistic and efficient way. The role is part of the PVA global community and includes sharing best practices and providing insights when suitable. An annual budget should reflect strategy and plans should be developed and investment prioritized in order to maximize impact on short / long term BRMO.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Cross-functional integration and compliance
    • Ensure commercial integration of PVA strategies and proactively and positively turn veterinary needs and insights into business winning solutions
    • Lead PVA function in key business reviews
    • Develop and manage annual PVA budget
    • Connect and collaborate with US PVA to execute and localize global strategies, provide insights and represent center of excellence to globally share best practices
    • Provide that technical competencies of the team on the ground are updated and ensure regular new product technical training of commercial and field team
    • Ensure that all Hill’s contacts and communications consistently meet the professional, ethical and regulatory standards demanded by the veterinary community and the corporation (incl. CP Code of Conduct, FCPA, anti-bribery and pet food regulations, etc.)
  • PCV Team
    • Responsible for coaching and the development of the local PVA field team (PCVs) to deliver against the established goal of the company
    • Plan with Customer Development coordinated PCV activities on the ground including technical coaching and joint KA visit  
    • Assign and track team KPIs
  • Professional Affairs: Associations and Congresses
    • Nurture alliances in light of company goals with representing the company at main events
    • Create annual congress plans with appropriate level of sponsorship, tracking specific KPIs
    • Ensure specific focus on veterinary technicians within professional association support and congresses’ plan
    • Maintain evergreen insights about status of vet profession to foresee trends and to strengthen long term company strategies
  • Academic Affairs, KTLs and Schools Programs
    • Define and execute clear plan to leverage local KTLs as 3rd party endorsers to support commercial plans (though symposiums, roundtables,  ICFE and Networking studies)
    • Revise school feeding  programs in order to create a sustainable program to drive future vet’s experience and endorsement
    • Assist on school educational program execution, leveraging MMI and OVC PHC equity when needed
  • Scientific Affairs:  Scientific Insights
    • Consult marketing for scientific content of communication materials to ensure compliance to latest tech / vet local knowledge
    • Coordinate with US PVA to get appropriate answer to questions in the field and provide insights to team on the ground

Education/Experience Requirements

  • Basic qualifications include:      
    • DVM (or equivalent country qualification)
  • Preferred qualifications:            
    • Diplomat in Veterinary Nutrition or Internal Medicine, MBA, Master or PhD in Veterinary Nutritional Sciences

       

Expected Areas of Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • At least 6 years of business experience in animal health corporate industry and/or in veterinary clinical practice and/ or in veterinary associations
  • Respected standing in local veterinary community
  • Fluent in English; French as additional language is a plus
  • Excellent understanding of animal health corporate industry, including pet food

 

Travel Requirements

  • Expected percentage of travel:  Up to 60%
