As an Indirect Tax Analyst for Hill’s Pet Nutrition, you will be responsible for ensuring (i) accurate sales and use tax accrual, (ii) remittance on Hill’s Pet Nutrition, Colgate-Palmolive and Tom's of Maine sales and purchases and (iii) interfacing with state and local auditors. This role will also manage and review (i) indirect compliance, including sales and use tax compliance, (ii) property tax renditions, and (iii) compliance for other indirect tax types. Key activities will include:

 

  • Oversee proper imposition of use tax on Hill's Pet Nutrition, Colgate-Palmolive and Tom's of Maine purchases. Included herein is the application of use tax principles and tax research to purchasing; analysis of data from various reporting sources; coordination with vendors and business stakeholders, and maintenance of tax determination systems. Will also ensure use tax accruals are appropriate.
  • Interface with and respond to various state and local tax auditors’ (sales and use, property, and income) questions/inquiries.  
  • Handle all customer, business stakeholder and vendor tax issues and inquiries escalated by Sales and Use Tax Analyst and intern(s).
  • Manage indirect tax compliance, including coordination and review of monthly sales and use tax returns, annual property tax renditions, and other indirect taxes/fees. Will also assist the Manager - State and Local Tax with annual income tax compliance and related items such as apportionment and estimates.
  • Perform online tax research to ensure Company sales and use tax compliance; consult with tax counsel from within Colgate’s four, primary law firms and interface with professional tax consultants regarding sales tax questions/concerns.
  • Assist the Manager -State and Local Tax with special, discrete projects such as: reverse audits, software implementations, refund claims and tax recovery, securing of incentives and related compliance, implementing business initiatives, etc.

 

Basic Qualifications: 

  • 2+  years’ experience in an indirect tax role, including sales and use tax
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting or a related field of study
  • Experience with tax software products, enterprise systems, and Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to interface successfully in a team environment with individuals throughout all levels of an organization
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and reasoning skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to execute activities independently while working in a fast-paced atmosphere
  • Flexibility to work additional hours, including weekends, to complete required work activities and meet deadlines.

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) certification
  • 2+ years of prior public accounting firm work experience 

  • Experience with state income tax
