As a Category Development Manager for Hill’s Pet Nutrition, you will be responsible for developing solutions to drive the category for the customer, and must be perceived as a credible Category partner. The Category Development Managerwill provide Category Management services including Category Assessment, product assortment, shelf strategies & recommendations for each retail environment.  Additionally the Category Development Manager needs to develop working relationships with the customer, consumer marketing, customer marketing and insights team to drive category growth. 


  • Leads Category Management partnerships by providing insights and solutions to drive the category.
  • Utilize AC Nielsen and other data sources to generates the optimal assortment recommendations to drive category growth and Hill’s consumption
  • Produce planograms for recommended assortments
  • Production of category review decks using external & internal data sources aligned to Customer and Hill’s timings
  • Monthly analysis of external and internal sales and profitability data to identify opportunity gaps, best practices, competitive strategy and 6P execution and/or compliance issues.
  • Own the Category Management process for the Petco Customer Development Team, liaise with commercial & customer teams to develop category plans, provide input and guidance on new product launches/re-launches.
  • Maintain and publish weekly/monthly business performance reports.
  • Communication of Category review schedule, ensuring all key deliverables are received within customer timelines
  • Space to sales review and insights meeting post category resets



Basic qualifications include:  

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 7+ years of related CPG (Consumer Packaged Goods) experience


Preferred qualifications include:

  • MBA
  • 4+ years Category Management or Business Analytics experience


Expected Areas of Skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite:  Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Experience with customer focused and be capable of working on a cross functional team. 
  • Process strong personal leadership to effectively coordinate among our internal teams
  • Have strong analytical skills
  • Ability to effectively provide training and education to varied audiences
  • Have working knowledge of sales promotions, executional plans and in-store merchandizing
