The Plant Engineering Manager is responsible for oversight of the Engineering and Maintenance departments for the facility. The primary accountabilities of the role include overseeing capital projects, technology transfer, performance and reliability of plant technical systems, and corporate EOHS (Environmental, Occupational Health and Safety) and Quality standards compliance. 


Additionally the Plant Engineering Manager is responsible for managing the MRO (Materials, Repairs and Operating Supplies) program and for identifying other potential opportunities for margin improvement.



  • Leads the technical engineering team to promote collaboration and alignment across functions in order to meet or exceed plant key performance indicators (KPI). Engineering team to include Maintenance Reliability Engineer, Packaging Engineer, Processing Engineer, Controls Engineer, Facilities, and any temporary engineering staff.
  • Functions as a member of the Strategic Leadership Team which establishes clear direction and continuous improvement expectations for the plant, leads and supports change, provides effective career development and planning for direct reports.
  • Develops and manages the overall facility capital and the facility maintenance expense budget.
  • Coordinates with the EOHS manager and Quality manager to ensure contractors follow all guidelines for safety, quality, food safety and food sanitation.
  • Ensure and accountable for all engineering aspects of projects as well as associated documentation are in compliance with CP (Colgate-Palmolive)/ Hill's, local, state, and federal standards and guidelines related to EOHS, Quality, and Regulatory.
  • Ensures training for newly implemented methods and systems to continuously improve technical skill level.
  • Develops and maintains the plant’s 5-year strategic capital plan and overall capital plan implementation.
  • Ensures appropriate EMO’s (Experimental Manufacturing Orders) are conducted to verify that process/equipment meets design specification and that personnel are trained appropriately.
  • Drives the company values and principles of Managing With Respect in all daily business affairs.
  • Support implementation of Quality Assurance and Food Safety initiatives. Ensure personnel adhere to Hill’s policies, safety standards, and Good Manufacturing Practices, including Quality Assurance and Food Safety.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field.
  • At least 8 years of experience in manufacturing, engineering, project management and capital projects, preferably in a food processing plant.
  • At least 5 years of experience managing capital or departmental budgets.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a management or supervisory role.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA.
  • Strong financial background in capital budgets and contractor negotiation.
  • Demonstrated ability for attention to detail, strong work standards.
  • Experience in EOHS, Quality, Maintenance.
