This position will serve as a business partner to managers, supervisors, and employees across the Richmond plant by providing support in employee and labor relations, performance management, organizational development, training, individual development planning (succession planning), recruitment/selection, and other workplace initiatives, to drive operational excellence in the facility. The incumbent will provide leadership and counsel to business partners in issue resolution, policy and process development, policy adherence, and process renewal to ensure compliance with Colgate policies, as well as federal and state employment legislation.  The right candidate will be able to meet the day-to-day requirements of the Human Resources department while maintaining a strategic and operational view that links the role of H.R. to business needs.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Business Partner:

  • Provides direction, leadership and support on all HR related processes/activities to managers, supervisors and employees. 
  • Operates within a participative team environment and seeks to increase team member's interpersonal and teamwork skills and knowledge to a level consistent with a world class manufacturer.
  • Participate with functional leaders and others as necessary to develop and implement strategic organization plans, strategic labor relations plans, and near and long term resource / staffing plans
  • Work jointly with the Hill’s H.R. Supply Chain Director to evaluate the people impact of organizational plans and/or programs for future organizational effectiveness.
  • Manage "People Capabilities" Standard in compliance with the Colgate Palmolive Factory Performance & Reliability (FP&R) process.
  • Coach team members in the areas of communication skills, career paths, promoting a positive work environment (Managing with Respect), through formal and informal feedback sessions.

Performance Management:

  • Assist managers and employees in timely completion of all steps in annual Performance Management and Development (PM&D) process
  • Guide and support managers in developing corrective actions and ensure proper documentation and follow up for low performing employees
  • Manage one other HR professional.  Complete all PM&D steps and coach and develop subordinate to achieve individual and career growth objectives.
  • Reports to the Plant Director, and indirectly to North America Supply Chain HR Director

Compensation:

  • Lead the annual salary planning and merit forecasting process for the site; run reports to analyze execution; follow up with managers as needed.
  • Prepare Compensation Offers (COS's) for new external hires, organization transfers and promotions, and off-cycle growth promotions
  • Partner with compensation in preparing an annual wage/salary survey for factory technicians to assess and understand pay position in local market; present any recommended wage change actions, and secure approvals to execute

Training & People Development:

  • Within Succession Planning, maintain and update database in S.A.P., review profiles for consistency, follow up with managers, action recommendations & develop presentations.
  • Assist managers and employees in preparing individual development plans, and in sustaining a continuous improvement culture for the site
  • Design and deliver training interventions to support the organization needs; identify training resource requirements.
  • Ensure on-boarding and assimilation processes for new employees confirms alignment with organization’s vision and culture and achieves their ability to quickly contribute to the organization’s goals

Employee Relations:

  • Counsel and provide assistance to employees and all levels of management in employee or labor issues; seek advice and guidance from corporate Employee Relations and Legal teams to ensure compliance with company policies and employment and labor laws.  As needed, investigate and obtain factual information concerning employee/management inquiries and employee suggestions and/or complaints.
  • Coordinate employee transfers, conduct exit interviews, and provide recommendations for corrective action policy revision and/or improving employee and labor relations.
  • Represent the company in outside community activities
  • Interface between federal, state and local government representatives and the company on issues involving people

Administration:

  • Ensure effective, consistent administration of Human Resources policies and guidelines.
  • Ensure HR data is accurate and updated in SAP-HR system. Utilize SAP reports to audit data and extract for reporting and analyses.
  • Analyze and/or prepare a variety of reports concerning the Human Resource function and key performance indicators necessary to communicate, educate or inform.
  • Initiate and/or manage e-360 feedback tool as appropriate.
  • Lead recruitment activities and assessment & selection processes to timely fill vacant positions.
  • Utilize Global Recruitment Management System / Success Factors system to manage position requisitions, job postings, candidate sourcing, and applicant data.

Basic requirements include: 

  • BS or BA degree required (HR, Business, Management or related field).
  • 8 years of relevant Human Resource Generalist experience (Staffing, Compensation, Development, Employee Relations, HRIS)
  • 5 years of experience in a manufacturing or related environment
  • Strong project management, presentation, and facilitation skills required
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)

 

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Masters Degree preferred (HR, Business, Management or related field)
  • Professional Certifications: PHR/SPHR/GPHR, SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP
  • Proficiency with SAP-HR and Success Factors systems
  • Experience in manufacturing operations management outside of Human Resources
