Job Summary

This role is instrumental in the company’s efforts to grow sales and market share by its focus on veterinary recommendation and ‘Brand Recommendation Most Often’ (BRMO) leadership, by providing education, and technical and business development support to the profession, by fulfilling its diverse needs, and by bringing veterinary insights to the company.

The PVA Manager tailors the strategy provided by the PVA director to the country situation and commercial grid to deliver Hill’s programs focused on all parts of the veterinary profession (schools, students, KTL, practising veterinarians (general and specialist), trade & professional associations, nurses, as well as internal audiences), integrates these programmes into each country’s commercial organization, and accomplishes the yearly KPI/goals set by division and the country’s GM, leading to:

  • Strong positive impression of the Hill’s company, its products, and its services
  • Continued scientific leadership of Hill’s
  • Leadership in active veterinary team endorsement and BRMO by world-class KTL and relationship management
  • Continued market share and top and bottom line growth


Principal Duties and Responsibilities







  • Technical & Scientific Affairs: is responsible for keeping the country technical product data and the technical competencies of the sales force updated, technical (internal and external) training, education (both technical and practice/business development and communication), seminars, and Congresses and approval of all technical marketing and sales materials. Is the liaison with the country pet food association. Is responsible for the country technical helpline and veterinary trade PR.


  • Continuing Education: is responsible for roll out and execution of all available (on-line and off-line) educational materials and programmes provided by division.


  • Closely manages the country PVA budget and contributes to the broader PVA team (sharing best practices, timely KPI reporting, etc.). Ensures close cooperation with and integration of PVA activities into the commercial (marketing, customer development) organization by being an active member of the country Management Team.


  • Champions the European professional digital initiatives, leading to full implementation of all professional digital initiatives and increased engagement with ‘Gen Y’.


  • Ensures that all Hill’s contacts and communications to customers and consumers consistently meet the professional, ethical and regulatory standards demanded by the veterinary community and the corporation (incl. CP Code of Conduct, FCPA, anti-bribery, pet food regulations, etc)


Total Percent (not to exceed 100%)


Education/ Experience Requirements

Basic qualifications include:  DVM (or equivalent country qualification)

Preferred qualifications include: MBA, Diploma in Internal Medicine or Nutrition


Expected Areas of Skills

  • At least 6 years experience in a veterinary practice (or a similar job)
  • Has built a strong network in the veterinary community, including the local Small Animal Veterinary Association, and country specialist societies
  • Knowledge of the pet food business as an advantage
  • Experience in Hill’s or other commercial business
  • Business and practice management experience
  • Fluent in English, additional language(s) a plus


Working Relationships (Key partnerships and reporting relationships)

  • Reporting manager: Country General Manager; strong dotted line functional manager: PVA Director
  • Internal customers: consumer/customer marketing, customer development (incl. field team), consumer helpline. The position is responsible for ensuring
    • integration of the PVA strategic activities into the broader commercial organization
    • technical & regulatory accuracy of all marketing materials
    • overall oversight and technical expertise for the helpline and complaints
    • manages the student representatives
  • External customers: the role is the company’s interface with veterinarians, nurses, vet and trade associations, academia, veterinary researchers


Travel Requirements

Expected percentage of travel:  Up to 50 % within CEEME countries
