This position will be based out of your home office in or near Atlanta, GA and covers Georgia, southern TN and Alabama. Overnight travel is required, with an average of 1-2 nights per week, but will vary week to week.

 

The Professional Consulting Veterinarian is part of the U.S. Professional and Veterinary Affairs (PVA) team responsible for veterinary relationship building, education and influence of veterinary customers (General Practitioners and Veterinary Healthcare Team members, Veterinarian and Veterinary Technician Key Thought Leaders, academic administrators, faculty, interns, residents and students, and Professional Organizations) that results in endorsement and active recommendation. This position ensures that Hill’s is positioned as an important scientific, innovative and credible partner that is engaged in supporting the profession to improve the health of dogs and cats. This position serves as the technical liaison for the sales district; consulting, coaching and training Sales Territory Managers and providing technical expertise that supports customer initiatives..

 

Responsibilities for this position include:

•             Build trusted, influential relationships with customers in all customer segments that result in active veterinary team recommendation and endorsement.

•             Influence practice success and establish Hill’s as the preferred partner through nutritional education, skill-building, training and coaching with veterinary healthcare teams.

•             Develop and grow trusting relationships with Key Thought Leaders (veterinary and technician) in private specialty practice, general practice and academia.  Identify opportunities to deliver relevant continuing education, execute informal feeding trials (In Clinic Feeding Experiences) and encourage KTLs to apply for Clinical Study Grants.

•             Provide nutrition and career enrichment education at veterinary and technician schools to establishes Hill’s as a trusted, innovative and credible partner. Educate interns, residents and 3rd/4th year veterinary students on clinical nutrition and Hill’s products, increasing nutritional competence and influencing active recommendation of Hill’s foods.

•             Work with Hill’s Student Representatives to identify and coordinate opportunities to create a positive identity and presence in veterinary and technician schools.

•             Enhance Field Sales Representatives’ technical and product expertise through training and field work; partner with District Managers on district needs and support.

•             Attend national/regional/specialty/state conferences and work the Hill’s exhibit booth, building relationships and influencing conference attendees to recommend and sell Hill’s products.

•             Develop and grow trusting relationships with local and regional veterinary associates to identify, target and prioritize opportunities that support Hill’s strategies.

•             Facilitate and improve utilization of Hill’s messaging and client education materials.

•             Partner, as a member of the Professional and Veterinary Affairs team, with US Marketing and Retail Marketing teams to provide customer insight and technical support for Hill’s products and programs.

 

Basic Qualifications

•             Professional degree in veterinary medicine (DVM, VMD or equivalent) and 4+ years clinical practice experience required; must have current, active license to practice veterinary medicine in at least one state

•             Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

•             Valid driver’s license

•             Ability to fulfill travel requirements of the position – on average 1-2 nights per week, but will vary week to week

•             Excellent communication skills (written, verbal and presentation)

•             Self-motivated and highly-competitive

•             Strong analytical skills and basic understanding of business and business terminology

•             Able to work independently to manage a demanding schedule with irregular hours and to manage travel within geography/region to deliver internal and external customer visits/training; some overnight travel required

•             Animal health industry experience

•             Commercial interest/experience and/or involvement in organized veterinary medicine

•             Proficient in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
