"Colgate-Palmolive invites applications for a Post Doctoral Research Scientist (PDRS) position based at our Piscataway, NJ location. Two year fixed term of at-will employment. The Research Scientist will have the opportunity to participate in product development efforts in Oral Care and will document research results with technical reports, patent applications, and present technical findings to R&D community and management."


The Reaserach Scientist will use a variety of analytical techniques to study ingredient interactions in Colgate’s next generation products and work closely with product development teams to transfer new technology. The systems of interest include active ingredients (such as antibacterial agents and anti-inflammatory agents) and their interactions with commonly used ingredients in consumer products including surfactants, polymers, solid particles, salts, flavors, etc.


The key responsibilities of this position are as follows:


  • Conduct and design research experiments to advance project objectives.
  • Develop and execute methods to investigate chemical interactions between active drug ingredients and excipient ingredients.
  • Identify new compositions and active ingredients to deliver therapeutic benefits.
  • Interpret and communicate experimental results to technical and non-technical business partners.
  • Collaborate with external academic partners on research projects exploring fundamental and applied research related.
  • Partner with technical, clinical, regulatory, legal, quality, safety and business partners to drive implementation of identified technologies.


Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D in in a subfield of chemistry. Preference will be given to candidates with thesis work in the area of chemoinformatics, coordination chemistry, organometallic chemistry, solution-phase chemical kinetics, reaction mechanisms, bioinorganic chemistry, solution-phase inorganic chemistry, or geochemistry.


  • Research experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • Measurement of reaction kinetics
    • Interrogation of reaction mechanisms
    • Synthetic inorganic chemistry
    • Aqueous coordination chemistry
    • Chemical thermodynamics
    • Chemoinformatics
    • Polymer physics and colloid science


Desired Qualifications.


  • Familiarity with or desire to learn data analytic tools
  • Capable of carrying out independent research programs with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including fluency in English.
  • Ability to interact with multifunctional technical/non-technical personnel and be an effective participant in a team environment
