Colgate-Palmolive Company seeks a patent agent with 4+ years experience to assist with global patent prosecution and application preparation. 

The successful candidate must have at least a bachelor of science degree preferably but not limited to Biology, Bio Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or other relevant major.

Specific Responsibilities:
  • Drafting and prosecuting utility patent applications on a global scale in the areas of chemical arts, including oral care, home care, personal care and pet nutrition
  • Effectively and efficiently managing a large and active patent docket
  • Interacting with domestic and foreign outside patent counsel throughout the world in order to procure patents on Colgate's behalf
  • Collaborating with R&D partners to harvest invention records and hone prosecution and patent strategy
  • Effectively implementing Colgate internal patent systems and processes for managing Colgate's patent portfolio
  • Supporting patent licensing, acquisition and enforcement activities as needed
  • Assisting in freedom to operate projects as needed


Basic Qualifications:


  • At least a bachelor of science degree, preferably but not limited to Biology, Bio Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or other relevant major
  • Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office  
  • 4+ years of solid experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications
  • Experience managing a large global patent portfolio and effectively maintaining/managing a patent docket a plus
  • Experience in a corporate legal or law firm environment, preferably on a global scale
  • Excellent oral communication and presentation skills required
  • Superior organization and project management skills
  • Strong communication skills with innovators, technologists, and business and legal leaders
  • Strong interpersonal skills; a team player able to establish and build partnerships across all levels of the legal, business, and R&D teams
  • Must have the ability to multi-task, manage multiple priorities, and deliver results in a fast-paced, constantly-changing environment
  • Needs to be a hands on “doer” with the ability to work independently
