As part of the Global Rewards Group, the Director Executive Compensation is responsible for the overall strategy, design, and implementation of all executive compensation programs, including base pay, short-term incentive programs, equity grants, long-term incentive structures and executive benefit programs. This position is also responsible for the design of Board of Directors compensation plans and external filing support and for developing executive salary structure and job pricing for all executive roles.  This position will work collaboratively with both the business and HR and is responsible for delivering well considered compensation solutions that address specific business needs. The ideal candidate is a proven leader with a demonstrated ability to support, develop and challenge a high-performing team and maintain strong partnerships within the organization to provide expert guidance and support on compensation matters.

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop strategic executive compensation programs to support the delivery of strong business results;
  • Understand business goals and aspirations, conceptualize and develop Colgate’s total rewards philosophy; Implement programs to ensure the organization recognizes and rewards exceptional performance;
  • Manage, design, develop, and administer all executive compensation programs, including base pay, short-term incentive programs and long term incentive programs;
  • Develop policies and guidelines related to executive compensation and incentive based talent retention strategies;
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of existing policies, guidelines, job architecture and procedures.  Recommend plan revisions as well as new plans which are cost effective and consistent with market trends, best practices and company objectives; co-ordinate implementation and provide guidance to constituents;
  • Provide technical expertise on executive compensation policies and procedures, strategy, compliance and design;
  • Set strategy for executive compensation, ensuring alignment with company’s Total Compensation Philosophy.  Responsible for proactively defining a roadmap to evolve and streamline executive compensation programs and processes across the Company;
  • Responsible for ensuring internal equity, external competitiveness, and compliance with regulations for executive compensation programs.  Partner with the compensation team and HR executive leadership, Executive Board and Management, the Corporate Finance, Benefits and Legal teams, and vendors/consultants as needed;
  • Develop materials for presentations to the CEO, the senior team and the Compensation Committee / Supervisory Board of Directors;
  • Monitor external market, shareholder activists and institutional investors for developments on governance and regulatory trends that impact design and disclosure rules of executive remuneration programs;
  • Manage the agenda and material development for Compensation Committee of the Board of Directors;
  • Interface with Compensation Committee independent consultant;
  • Interface with Legal, Accounting, Tax, Audit, and others regarding compensation programs to ensure accurate reporting and compliance with applicable laws and regulations;
  • Acts as business partner to HR and executive management by providing guidance on executive compensation programs and policies;
  • Manage documentation and executive communications to ensure understanding of the programs by HR business partners, executive leadership and plan participants;
  • Manage external consultants and consulting assignments as necessary.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 15+ years of functional (Compensation) experience  including experience planning, designing and developing strategic total rewards programs;
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Human Resources, Management or other related discipline;
  • Master’s Degree preferred;
  • Strong project management skills;
  • Supervisory experience/experience managing people;
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Strong knowledge of compensation;
  • Ability to manage in a fast paced, high volume environment;
  • Must be flexible and have the ability to multitask;
  • Analytical capabilities and attention to detail;
  • Collaborative nature and team spirit;
  • Demonstrated strength in customer service;
  • Takes initiative and anticipates customer needs and issues.
