The Retail Category Development Specialist/ Associate Retail Category Development (RCD) Manager plays a key role in the customer development organization by acting as the category expert by delivering category best practice presentations that identifies opportunities for our customers.


This role works closely with both internal and external partners to provide strong, multi-level working relationships with the assigned customers as well as working across all functional areas of the customer development team to develop the business.


Main Duties & Responsibilities:


  • You must demonstrate expertise in category management. Must provide best in class Category Management results based on fact based selling.
  • Strong proficiency in Nielsen, Homescan Panel, Spectra, IRI , FeatureVision, 84.51 & JDA and other customer point of sale systems is required to be able to provide strong data analysis.
  • Be proficient in the interpretation of shopper & consumer data and effectively integrate them to tell fact based stories to drive category solutions internally and with the customer.
  • Complete customer category review process utilizing category analysis, shopper insights and available analytic tools.
  • Develop customer presentations, recommendations for new item introductions and plan-o-gram reviews.
  • Establish strong, multi-level working relationships with the assigned customers based on mutual trust and integrity.
  • Communicate and reinforce brand strategies & priorities to the Customer Development Team.
  • Initiate & synchronize brand strategies/priorities with customer strategies for a win-win. Execute new product initiatives accordingly.
  •  Utilize shelf management software and category expertise to provide recommendations for shelf placement for new items and existing products with an objective of securing distribution/placement that is mutually beneficial for Colgate and the account.
  • Coordinate “Fair Share of Shelf” support. Develop plan-o-gram’s using plan-o-gram software.
  • Determine the effectiveness of Colgate and competitive promotions through post-analysis, and make recommendations to the account.
  • Provide category management support for internal processes.
  • Works across all functional areas of the customer development team in developing the business.
  • Scorecard and monitor the execution of 5P activities in line with established objectives and guidelines.
  • Participate in the Account Planning process with the Customer Development Team to develop plans that profitably increases customer volume and Colgate market share by providing balanced promotional and baseline analysis.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 3+ years of consumer product sales or category management experience, or other relevant sales/marketing experience
  • 2+ years of experience analyzing syndicated data
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint is required
  • Availability to travel 25% of the time


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Consumer insight experience is preferred
